Season after season The Blonds find a way to up the ante and take their collection inspirations to places you would not expect. For the latest collection for FW15 they drew from darker influences than last seasons “Genie from the block” collection. Amongst the guests were Jay Manuel, Kate Nash, NERVO, Charli Baltimore, Sharaya J and Paris Hilton who wore a look from their SS15 collection. The attendees really step it up when it comes to dressing for The Blonds, and it definitely gets you excited for the show.
Their inspiration was taken from the sometimes controversial film directors Alejandro Jodorowsky and Stanley Kubrick. You definitely see strong nods to Stanley Kubrick in the collection, especially from his film “A Clockwork Orange”, as well as the iconic cinematic moments Jodorowsky created in “The Holy Mountain”.
Max Steiner created the set again this season, with 2 statues of Phillipe lining the entrance to the runway with “The Blonds” written repeatedly along the wall in a bubbly psychedelic text. The first look was indicative of The Clockwork Orange reference with Phillipe entering the runway with bowler cap and cane, alongside her two hench-women in Louboutin clad feet. While each piece in it’s own right is a showstopper, there were a few looks that made very heavy impact on the runway.
The Orange corset with an architectural points dripping with Preciosa crystal components. The Orange fur cape by Helen Yarmak and 3 tiered Bond Hardware necklace completed the look impeccably.
Another stand out for me was two looks that incorporated Oversized 3D plates that made a camouflage motif, seen in a voluminous jacket and lowrider pants. The pants reminded me of something Missy Elliott would wear or should be wearing when her new album drops. You could actually hear the plates clicking together as it came down the runway. There were a few more military references within the collection with SWAT inspired harnesses by Bond Hardware, as well as numchucks, blades and a single cyanide pill encrusted on one of the nail looks by CND.
I’ll put it to you this way, you best not get in the way of this girl gang.
