A beautiful location and backdrop is nothing without a great, contemporary collection displayed in front of it. Rubin & Chapelle’s FW 2015 presentation was held at one of our favourite venues – The top of The Standard Hotel in Chelsea. Gorgeous views of the NYC skyline and ample amounts of sunlight shining through, the models were lined up around the room in vignettes, in front of the floor to ceiling windows.
The collection featured sophisticated and elegant looks embracing a Scottish theme through the use of tartan, pleats and fringes. Staying quite minimal in aesthetic, the looks were complimented by Sperry rain boots and metallic sneakers. We loved the combination of elegant clothing paired with the casual footwear, a movement we are seeing more amongst the collections and on the street.
Designers Sonja Rubin, and Kip Chapelle teamed up with fellow designer Johanna Michel to develop this Scottish theme in their choice of materials. One of our favourites was an all white 2-piece set of a boxy blazer and Bermuda shorts – a little odd for a fall/winter option, but we’ll take it and add tights if we need to! Another was an olive green silk printed Bermuda shorts jump suit, styled with a boxy white blazer, and a matching printed scarf wrapped around the head.
All in all, this collection was beautiful, but it’s definitely not something we could wear in this cold NYC weather. All the more reason to take it with us on vacation.
