New York is taking notice of designer Raif Adelberg in a big way. Although Adelberg lives & designs on secluded Bowen Island off the coast of BC, his collection is currently hanging in 2 of the most prestigious department stores – Barneys and Bergdorfs. For the month of December, Adelberg’s collection is being showcased for the first time in Canada in the form of a pop up shop located on the North Shore.
The collection was launched in 2011, and showcased at New York Fashion Week in February 2013. Under the guidance of PR Powerhouse, People’s Revolution, the show was a success and received a lot of media attention. The momentum of this was not lost and Adelberg continued to see his brand in print. Most recently, his collection was featured in Teen Vogue (cover), Details, GQ, and W Magazine.
All the clothing is hand-loomed, hand-dyed, and hand-knit in British Columbia. One of the signature pieces, a Cowichan-inspired sweater (retails: $4000 USD) was described by fashion director for Bergdorf Goodman Nick Wooster as “the most amazing thing you could own”.
The collection was quickly scooped up by Bergdorf Goodman’s and given a dedicated space. Adelberg recently launched a women’s cashmere collection. It received similar acclaim and is currently available at Barneys in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Adelberg is no stranger to the fashion industry. He’s a fashion designer, artist, gallerist and magazine publisher who loves to create. Born into a family of designers and art collectors, Adelberg as a gallerist has produced shows by KAWS, Ryan McGinness, SEEN and Kostas Seremetis.
He was also the man behind the store Richard Kidd, located in an incredible space on Water Street in Gastown from 2004-2008. The boutique received international recognition and featured a unique mix of high-end fashion, including his own men and women’s collections under the Richard Kidd label. Vogue and Style.com referred to it as one of the top stores to visit in the world.
Adelberg is bringing a taste of his New York worthy collection back to Vancouver. His luxury line of cashmere and accessories is available in a pop up shop, located on the North Shore. This temporary retail installation features toques, scarves, gloves, jackets and sweaters. Along with artwork by Adelberg and selections from his punk rock, ready-to-wear Deadboys Clubhouse line.
The store is open until 24 December. Bonus? All the pieces are 60% off.
