OPUS Bar launches some new summer sips to savour with their artisan cocktail list.

Last week I got to check out the new summer cocktail list at The Opus Hotel in Vancouver. This boutique hotel has not only become one of the city’s most acclaimed hotels, but a hotspot for visitors and locals alike. The OPUS Hotel stands out because it is truly one of a kind, a complete bespoke experience from start to finish. From their stylish modern interiors designed by published Interior Designer Robert Bailey, to their restaurant La Pentola and now their newest space. Earlier this Spring Opus Hotel completed a extensive renovation of their 96 rooms back in spring 2013, as well as a redesign of the main lobby area which houses The New Opus Cafe by Day and Opus Bar by Night last November.
From 730am – 130pm the space is a posh coffee bar serving espresso drinks and pour-over coffees with beans from Matchstick Coffee Roasters in Chinatown. They also have curated a selection of local favourites from Cartems Donuterie, The Juice Truck, Erin Ireland’s To Die For Banana Bread, and Cadeaux Bakery.
The summer vibes were in full effect in the intimate space. The lovely DJ Nina Mendoza was on the decks providing us with some wicked beats for the evening.
There was also some fantastic canapés from their restaurant next door, La Pentola, another fantastic spot to check out.
While local media and influencers were mingling around, the bartenders were busy showing off their skills behind-the-bar. Bar Manager Barry Jackson and Bartender Marty were busy cranking out sophisticated craft cocktails quickly, and with a natural ease. One of their cocktails “Jalapeño Smoke” requires using cedar to smoke the glass before the cocktail is poured in. It’s little touches like this that truly make The Opus Bar more than your average cocktail bar.
THE SYSCO KID: BULLEIT BOURBON, FRANGELICO, B&B, ORANGE PEKOE SYRUP, MINT
TIKI TIKI: RON ZACAPA RUM, VINTAGE PORT, LEMON, BLACKBERRIES, TIKI BITTERS
SUMMER WIND: TANQUERAY GIN, APEROL, ST.GERMAIN, STAR ANISE, GRAPEFRUIT, LEMON
My absolute favourite was the H.S.O.P, don’t let the light pink colour and raspberry garnish fool you, this packs quite the kick. The tartness of the raspberry with the sweetness of the blood orange contrasts fluidly (pun intended) with the heat from the chilli infused Don Julio Tequila, and the smokey tones of the Ouzo. The chili hits pretty hard on the finish, but if you like some heat then you will definitely love this one as much as I do.

“We’re pleased to add an extra option for guests and a cozy corner for locals to enjoy a fantastic coffee and some of the city’s best local baked goods,” says Nicholas Gandossi, General Manager of OPUS Hotel. “OPUS Bar is at the very heart of what’s happening in the hotel – whether it’s day or night.”
Upon leaving the event I received a really unique takeaway, 2 viles of their Rosewater Martini, which is realllly tasty. Also to note they sent a USB that has a bottle cap opener on it, well played. #slowclap
In the spirit of summer and the hot weather we wanted to make sure you stayed well hydrated, so here’s a recipe for The OPUS Bar’s Rosewater Martini to help you keep cool poolside.
Check out OPUS Bar for live music every Wednesday night and DJ’s Thursday Night through Sunday Night.
