How a single Instagram post could give someone in need, something we take for granted.

TOMS was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, a entrepreneur from Arlington Texas. TOMS runs under a “one for one” business model, meaning for each pair of TOMS sold, they donate a pair to a person in need. As of 2012, the company has donated over 1,000,000 pairs of shoes across 40 countries.

TOMS has since expanded the ways they are helping people in need in developing countries.

When you purchase a pair of TOMS eyewear, they will provide and Eye exam and either a pair of prescription glasses, sight saving surgery or medical treatment to a person in need. To date they have already been able to give the gift of sight to over 300,000 people.

When you buy a bag of TOMS Roasting Co Coffee, they will provide 140L of clean and safe drinking water (A one week supply) to a person in need. To date they have been able to supply over 100,000 weeks of safe water for people in need.

Their latest product, TOMS bags, will provide safe birth kits, training for skilled birth attendants and a safe birth for a mother and child in need.

For the 8th year in a row, TOMS is launching their “One day without shoes” campaign, challenging people to live one day (or part of the day) without shoes. This year they are upping the ante and giving you another way you can give a pair to someone in need without even making a purchase.

Between now and May 21st, take a photo of your feet without shoes and use the hashtag #withoutshoes [Your account has to be public] and TOMS will donate a pair to someone in need. Spread the word, they will be donating up to 1,000,000 pairs!
