THINGS: “Behind the Mirror” DSQUARED2 and Interview Magazine Party
New York Fashion Week is a time when fashion, media, designers and models from around the world come together to celebrate fashion. To cap off the first weekend of shows the boys of DSQUARED2 teamed up with none other than Interview Magazine to premiere the video “Behind the Mirror” from their SS13 campaign shot by the infamous duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
The event took place at Copacabana, a venue with a notorious history of over 70 years. Copacabana has shared the stage with many of the greats like Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis Jr, Bette Midler, Nat King Cole and even inspired a song by Barry Manilow.
After racing in a cab from the Emerson show at Lincoln Centre, Nathan (one of our NYC contributors) and I made our way to the Times Square hotspot. The walls along the flights of stairs were adorned with shots from the SS13 campaign. The place was absolutely packed. We hit the model swarmed bar where they were serving specialty cocktails crafted by Belvedere vodka. With our libations in hand, we made our way around the party to get a better look at the happenings.
Within five minutes at this lavish party Nathan and I had run into Miss Jay Alexander, Carson Kressley and the swoon worthy Brad Goreski. The next thing I knew I was being introduced to none other than designer and shoe god, Paul Smith. I have always had a big heart on for Paul Smith, and my collection of his brogues to prove it. The DJ was playing some sick beats and we took a minute to bust a hot little move.
An announcement suddenly exclaimed that the reason we had all gathered here was about to begin. The party was held to celebrate and premiere DSQUARED2’s most recent campaign video by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. These common collaborators have worked with top publications such as W, Vogue (US and Italy) and Numero.
The video was shot completely in black and white and the opening scene featured Dean & Dan playing mirror reflections of each other. The video looped for the rest of the evening, and each time I watched it I discovered a different nuance, which I hadn’t seen before.
Over the course of the evening more and more guests arrived to join in on the festivities. Partygoers included Eve, Andrej Pejic, BryanBoy, Rumi Neely, Amanda Lepore, Chad White and Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. Late into the evening the night was coming to an end (or a beginning depending how you look at it) and it was time to figure out the next destination. NYC and Sunday night…hmmm…where to go? GREENHOUSE OBVIOUSLY.
A slew of the San Francisco The Social Life crew in town to celebrate Tony C Douglas’ birthday, and boy did we ever celebrate.
Until next time! xx Joshua
