Charlotte Olympia Dellal has been making major waves in the fashion industry in the last few years. Her shoes and accessories line, Charlotte Olympia, has become one of the most coveted fashion lines out there. She graduated from Cordwainers, a faction of The world renown London School of Fashion in 2004. After her graduation she spent time working at Ungaro as well as Giambattista Valli in Paris.
In 2006 Charlotte started her namesake line and has created an almost cult-like following with celebrities and tastemakers alike. Boasting a clientele including the likes of Daphne Guinness, Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss to name a few.
The Hudsons Bay hosted Charlotte in Vancouver at The Room, located on the second floor of the Hudsons Bay. The Room has become one of Vancouver’s premiere luxury shopping destinations, since it’s opening in the Fall of 2011. The Room has hosted some of the hottest and most exclusive events, bringing in some of the fashion industries most respected designers and figures. For their event with Charlotte Olympia Dellal, the space was transformed into a chic adventure at sea, complete with a mermaid cut out to have a polaroid photos snapped in. The floor was painted strawberry sundae pink, which played off well against the “sundae” inspired shoes.
“My shoes are very much a part of me. But I like to design for women of all ages, strong women who want shoes that can go from day to night. I’m not trying to make anything crazy. I want to make something special. – Charlotte Olympia Dellal to WWD
The hashtag for the event was #OVERBOARD and it was painted on the strawberry sundae pink painted floor. The decor also had a nautical vibe that was executed with thoughtful and unexpected touches. The “treasure chest” clutch was truly remarkable in dark wood with gold detailing and gold clasp. The clutch is compact in size but still allows for every girls essentials, cellphone, credit cards, lipstick and mascara. Honestly, what else do you really need.
I am in LOVE with the “Camera Bag” on a long chain strap I saw one of the ladies on the Charlotte Olympia team wearing. The “lens” has a mirrored finish so you can make sure your lipstick is always in check. It’s the little details like this in her designs I appreciate so much.
I was slightly nervous to meet Charlotte because we have something huge in common, a love for fun and quirky shoes. I spent half the day deciding which shoe to literally put my best foot forward in, and decided on a pair of Comme des Garçons boots that had anime character faces all over them. Well they were a hit, and after getting a shoe compliment from someone whom I respect so highly as a designer, I could now sigh in relief. She is so classically beautiful, like a modern day Veronica Lake with her perfectly coiffed golden tresses.
We briefly spoke obviously about shoes and how I would love to see her expand her mens line. Currently she exclusively offers her signature “Charlottes Web” and “Tom Cat” styles in mens. Oh the things I would do for a ice cream inspired Charlotte Olympia loafer is shocking. Luckily she would have a chance to do a little sight seeing the next day, so I recommended to a couple of my favourite Vancouver spots, like Stanley Park and Capilano Suspension Bridge.
Thank you to Hudson Bay for having us at the event and to Charlotte for being so lovely and warm to all the guests, myself included.
