The CFDA Awards were last night at the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, recognizing achievements and contributions made to American Fashion. The red carpet was filled with celebrities, designers, muses and some of fashions top influencers. From DVF and Michael Kors to Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang, all of our favourite designers made it out for fashions big night. Blake Lively looked satatuesque in a gold Michael Kors dress with a scalloped hemline. Joan Smalls lived up to her supermodel status in a gorgeous Prabal Gurung gown. One of the more surprising guests was “Mango” [If you are not familiar with Chris Kattans character Mango from SNL, google it immediately, we will be seeing more of Mango and Alexander Wang very shortly], who arrived in leather shorts, a black cape and matching hat.

Let it be known that the one everyone was waiting for was Rihanna, who was receiving the Fashion Icon Award. Rihanna consistently wow son the rec carpet so considering she would be receiving such an incredible award, we knew it would be a jaw dropping look. Rihanna showed up in a custom Adam Selman sheer gown covered in over 230,000 Swarovski crystals and matching Swarovski crystal do-rag. The completely sheer ensemble left nothing to the imagination but when you have a body like Rihanna, and the confidence to pull it off, then I say go for it. It’s funny considering Rihanna’s recent battles with Instagram over the topless photo she had posted which fuelled her departure from the social media platform. Last night and even today my entire feed is filled with RiRi’s rack.

We have selected our favourite moments from the red carpet, the winners and a glimpse into the texting relationship between Anna Wintour and Rihanna.

We were so proud of Patrick Janelle for winning Fashion Instagrammer of the year. As part of his win Patrick Janelle [ @aguynamedpatrick ] took over the CFDA instagram as their official instagram correspondent as we reported yesterday, and he did a fantastic job capturing the whimsey and spirit of the CFDA’s.  Here is some of our favourite Instagrams by him from last night:

“I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion, fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun.” – during her acceptance speech

One of my absolute favourite moments of the night was when Rihanna received her fashion icon award from Anna Wintour.
